We are the the Cancer Support Now community.
We come from everywhere.
We come in all colors, sizes, shapes and ages. On the surface, we may seem to have nothing in common. Dig a little, and you’ll find that we share a special bond that transcends our wide diversity. Each of us has been affected by cancer. We are survivors and caregivers. Some of us have been cast in both roles. Each of us has a story to tell, and together, our stories form a rich tapestry of caring and support that has been woven together through our connections to Cancer Support Now and to one another.
HOW TO BE YOUR OWN BEST ADVOCATE
Today healthcare systems are complicated, causing patients to feel overwhelmed when faced with the challenge of seeking treatment for a diagnosis of cancer. Cancer Support Now is partnering with Liminal Patient Navigation Consultants to offer a class for anyone diagnosed with cancer and/or their family members. The class will describe techniques to ease the transition into becoming a patient and/or caregiver through education, understanding, and self-advocacy. The discussions will help patients and family members look at and alleviate their distress, as well as identify the most common barriers they might encounter. Each session will describe the nuts and bolts of acquiring resources so they can gain the support, information and medical services they will need to help them build a sense of hope and empowerment. Please call the Cancer Support Now helpline at 505-255-0405 or visit the Cancer Support Now website at cancersupportnow.org to learn more. Classes will be hosted on Zoom beginning September 9, 12:00 pm – 1:30pm. The classes will be offered monthly on the 2nd Wednesday at 12:00 pm, with hopes that these will meet in person once it is safe to gather.
